Camp Hero and Montauk Air Force Station
Crazy Pilot
The plane above is the Piper type plane that I mentioned earlier. It was also circling the base, but we didnt take too much notice of it, except that we were watching for the surveilance plane. Well, around 5 minutes after the surveilance plane buzzed us, this plane flew over. As I watched it I grew suddenly alarmed. The plane turned 90 degrees to one side, straightened itself out, then tipped 90 degrees to the other side. I thought to myself "That thing is going to crash!" Suddenly the plane turned upside down, and flew directly over us in that manner. I feel that it was probably someone just having some fun, someone who was very experienced with air flight. But again, it is strange, its not something I see every day, or at all except for a couple of airshows I have attended. And that is the single element that seems to thread through each investigation, things just seem odd at the base.
Strange path
Another oddity I encountered, were several paths that to all intents and purposes appeared to have been intentionally cleared. I got the sense that the vegetation was poisoned, and then flattened with vehicle traffic. There is one big problem with this theory, there appeared to be no reason for doing this. And as I said, we found this in several areas. But these paths led nowhere, and there was nothing dumped at the ends, or anything to indicate why they were made. They definitely did not seem to be natural formations. Some area cleared were tremendous. We now realize in hindsight, that these areas purpose may be to see them from the air as crop circles. As one of the discs we were using to take pictures somehow became corrupted, it is our intention to go back and document these areas as much as possible in the near future.
guard booth
All of the structures that are still standing are marked in this manner. Especially the batteries and bunkers. This was done recently, again I suppose in preperation to open the base to the public. This building seemed to mark the end of Camp Hero. However, the entire base will not be open to the public. The radar and command center and surrounding areas are all closed to the public. The reasons for this seem apparent enough at first glance, but were it not for a series of discoveries we noticed, we would feel confident in saying that there is no secret activity being conducted at the base.
BOOM!
These brand new signs marked a place known as area H. And the picture below shows the helpful brochures telling people why it is dangerous to handle unexploded ordinance. The entire area is fenced off, which disturbed us a bit. The reason is that it was not fenced off on our last journey, and we had clopped through the place on our last trip.
